Background

I am a graduate of Western Kentucky Universty and have 30 hours above my Rank I, with a secondary degree. Emphasis is placed on history and political science.

I am a retired secondary school treacher with 30 years of experience. Fifteen of those years I taught male youth offenders at a state facility. My discovery that there was no curriculum suitable to meet my students promtped me to wrote my own. To inhance my skills I took courses from the Institute of Children's Literature.

Since traditional curriculum had failed to interest my students, who had commited crimes and came from dysfunctional backgrounds, I had to find a way to reach them. This began to creating a point of interest. This point of interest must be beign in itself. This may be a TV program, an unexplained event, a comic book, or a suitable movie. Once the students are interested in the subject matter and are welling to learn about it, then another valuable lesson may be added that relates to the subject. This lesson will be something that the students would have ignored otherwise.

This system does not discontinue traditional educational systems, but presents them in a way the student finds interesting. More importantly, the student becomes a part of the learning process.
