This project, with its corresponding information and guideline materials, encourages students to use their creativity and imagination to develop a one-of-a-kind roller coaster. The ultimate goal is to design a roller coaster that functions safely for a marble "passenger." Students will create a theme and also a name for their project. Included in this project are 1) a guideline and rubric for step-by-step organizational instructions, 2) information collection forms such as measurement forms and building supply list forms, 3) project management notes designed to help the teacher enhance this activity and 4) a test with an answer key for teachers to use for concept evaluation. This is a very popular unit. It involves parents, teachers, and the community.
